That's right, folks, it's BBC, the bane of our existence!
Basically, BBC is how posts are formatted most of the time. Luckily ProBoards supports nice variety of codes, so I'll take some time to explain the basics.
~~~
Lesson 1: Basic Formatting
Lesson 1, part 1: Boldface, italics, underline, andstrikethrough.
These three are the easiest codes to use, as the tags consist of single letters.
For example, boldface would be coded as such:
Italics would be:
While underline would look like this:
Andstrikethrough would have these tags:
Simple, right? Let's move on to some other effects.
Lesson1, part 2: Alignment
This is pretty self explanitory. The codes for making your aligning your text as shown above are right here:
Got it? Good, now let's learn how to deal with links.
~~~
Lesson 1, part 3: Links
Okay, links are pretty simple too. There are two ways to do a link; let's use MultiHigh's homepage as an example.
Method 1: URL only
The first way to do the url-only method is just to put the url in the message. So, this:
multihigh.proboards80.com/
Would look like this:
The second way works just the same, only you add the url tag on to it:
multihigh.proboards80.com/
Both links would lead you to Multi's homepage; they're just typed out in different ways.
In some places you'll also see text that is a link, but isn't shown as a url. This is also easy to do.
MultiHigh
Would be typed out as this:
Also very simple, no? If you got all that, then good job! You just learned the basics of creating links! Let's move on to images, which are just as simple.
~~~
Lesson 1, part 4: Images
The first step to putting an image in your post is getting it hosted at a place such as TinyPic, the portal site imageShack, or my personal favorite, Photobucket. This is simple and most places will walk you through the steps. After your image has been hosted, the first thing would be to get the url of your image. Let's use one of Multi's buttons as an example.
i106.photobucket.com/albums/m279/lycoris128/rpg%20stuffs/multi_button1copy.png
Should look like this:
Clicking on that would lead you directly to a page with only the image on it. But what if you want your picture to appear in the post? In that case, you would attatch the image tag to it.
Would be coded as this:
Also, did you know that you can use images as links? That's pretty easy to do, too.
Would be typed out like this:
Good, now you know your way around images and the like. The last thing I'll teach you for this lesson will be how to manually put in quotes.
~~~
Lesson 1, part 5: Quotes
Now, most forums including ProBoards have a neat function where you can quote entire posts with the click of a button. But what if you want to put multiple quotes in your post, or if you want to quote something from a different thread? That's easy to do, too.
Would look like this in code:
~~~
That's it for lesson one! That should be enough to help you create your own profiles and start role-playing. Have fun~!
