In an attempt to save money, Raymond had been searching the library for biology textbooks. Although he generally wasn't the 'thrifty' type, he felt he owed a strong debt to the family who had generously paid his tuition to him. If he could find a library copy, he could sell the books back and put that towards his repayment. The library was vast and extravagant, the dark-brown Oak shelves mixed well with the milky-white marble floor, which shone brightly with the morning sun coming in from the vast array of large windows.
He had made his way though to the life sciences section. He would try and find his most expensive text book, Evolution. He brushed his hair away from his eyes in order to get a clearer view of the books available to him. He knew he would be searching for a long time. Thankfully, there was a lot of time available to him to search for things. As he looked at various books, he wrote down titles that didn't match his criteria, but seemed interesting. Being frugal with textbooks was going to prove to be more difficult than he first thought.
Maybe this was only because he was used to much smaller libraries back home. The only library he had ever used before this one was the library in his small, rural town. The vastness of it all was almost overwhelming.

What the hell am I doing here?
That was the main thought that was floating around in Akane's mind as she wandered aimlessly between the massive bookshelves inside Multi Academy's library. That thought was soon replaced by Why the hell did I say yes? as she recalled the circumstances that had gotten her into this situation. Earlier that day the school's librarian had come knocking at her door, insisting that Akane had agreed to fill in for one of the library's assistants that was on vacation that week. She didn't remember making any agreement of the sort (she was probably drunk at the time), but said yes anyway because she'd get paid for her time.
Today, her job consisted mainly of pointing hopelessly lost students in the direction of the books they needed and monitoring the shelves to make sure nothing too outrageous was going on, such as the paper-ball fight she had broken up near the fiction section and the ruler duel near the biographies.
As she passed the Life Sciences section, she noticed one student, probably college-aged, studiously searching the shelves. Helping him out wouldn't be nearly as fun as hitting delinquents on the head with school supplies, but it would at least be productive. "Hey, kid," she said as she walked up to her target. "Do you need help finding something?"

Raymond had been so focused at the shelf in front of him that the sound of the lady behind him had startled him. However, he calmed down immediately and looked behind him to see a woman, more than likely a teacher, asking if he would like her assistance. "Ah," he spoke softly, "I'm just looking for some old evolution textbooks." He smiled at the teacher politely while putting his notebook in his pants pocket. "I'm trying to save money," He spoke in a matter-of-fact manner.
He felt cheap as he said it, this wasn't what most people did. The idea of helping him search for a textbook for a matter so frivolous more than likely brought feelings of dread to the teacher. She didn't even seem as if she wanted to be here in the first place, "Uh..." he muttered meekly, "There's no need to trouble yourself. There are probably people who need your help more than I do." He said this, all the while thinking "I would like some help actually..."

Akane made a noise that was somewhere between a laugh and a snort, then lamented, “What I wouldn’t give to be young and frugal. Nah, scratch that. What I wouldn’t give to be young.” While she really wasn’t all that old, she liked griping about having more years on her than her students.
Just a little impatiently, she held her hand out and flexed her fingers a few times. “All right, then. List. Pronto,” she ordered, raising her eyebrows at the student. “Penny-pinching is a sign of good character, usually. Plus, I need to at least look like I’m working.”

Raymond chuckled a little bit at the teacher's age comment. "You don't look that old at all." He had commented, trying to be reassuring, giving her an honest smile.
Even though he was pleased that she had decided to help him, he was a little intimidated by the teacher's brashness and seeming quick temper. He immediately pulled a well-folded textbook list out of his pocket and handed it to the teacher, thanking her for her 'good character' comment.
"I highly doubt we'll find current edition textbooks here, but evolutionary theory and... biology as a whole, really, wouldn't make too drastic of changes within 3 years." He smiled, attempting to further explain the situation at hand, and his own goals.

“Good answer,” Akane told the student, giving him a solid pat on the back that was really more of a slap. With her other hand she plucked up the list, then started glancing over the titles. Most of them were unfamiliar to her, but she had the general idea of where they should be located, including one that was supposedly nearby.
While Akane was tall, so were the shelves of Multi Academy’s library, and she was fairly certain that one of the books was located on the top of the shelf closest to them. Rather than hunt down one of the step ladders scattered amongst the aisles, she put her foot up onto one of the lower shelves. “Hey, you think these things are bolted down?” asked the teacher casually, pushing on the wood with her foot to test its strength.

The slap on the back he had received from the teacher threw Raymond off a bit, a small 'oof' passed his lips as he was forced forward slightly. He regained composure immediately as he watched the teacher look though the list. "As you can see, the most expensive one is the book on evol- ah!"
He was shocked to see the helpful educator attempting to climb the shelves. This seemed rather reckless to him. "I-I don't really... think so. The shelves seem self contained." he said this as he noticed that the shelves where enclosed on all sides, more than likely made that way with the intention of being moved about without too much maintenance work.
"Are you sure a ladder is too inconvinent!?" He asked meekly, the shock being evident in his voice. He spoke a shy bit too loudly for a library, and when he realized this, he tried his hardest to calm himself down.
Maybe he was too much of a safety nut, and maybe such things are a lot more normal. But he couldn't help being shocked at such a display.

"I've got no idea where the closest ladder is," said Akane in a matter-of-fact tone. She grabbed on to one of the higher shelves and tried shaking it experimentally. "But, I do know that one of the books that you're looking for is right up there."
With that she hoisted herself up one, then two shelves until she found herself at eye level with what appeared to be the evolution book that the student was searching for. Something in the woodworking began to groan and creak under Akane's weight, so she quickly grabbed the book and hopped down from the shelf, only stumbling slightly.
"I believe this is what you're looking for," she informed the young man with a smug grin.

While the display still had him a little shocked, he couldn't help but feel grateful that the teacher had just saved him 40K yen. “Ah... thank you very much. You don't know how much I appreciate this.” He smiled and bowed to show the teacher his gratitude as politely took the book from her.
Raymond's eyes widened, “Oh, how rude of me... I haven't introduced myself.” He put the textbook under one of his arms and extended the other hand for a handshake as he said “My name is Raymond De La Cruz, it's a pleasure to meet you.” He smiled warmly, looking into the helpful woman's eyes.

"Good to meet you, Raymond. I'm Akane Tsuyuri," she replied, accepting the offered hand and giving it a firm shake. "I take it you're going to Multi's college? You'll probably like it. Most of the nutjobs teach at the high school, anyway."
As soon as those words left her mouth, she realized, Oh wait. I teach high school kids, too. "Well, the college staff is also pretty weird," she continued, her volume level not exactly suited for the library. "But don't let that scare you."
